Daring day trip that thrilled my silly kids

I had planned on making a day of it. We were going to take a Brightline train up to Fort Lauderdale and have fun visiting the Riverfront area (since it’s blocks away from the station), but the weather was horrible that day and I decided not to risk going by myself with two toddlers on a train to Fort Lauderdale with torrential rains, so we postponed the trip and went this past Wednesday.
When I noticed the weather was good Wednesday, after dropping Sebastian off at school, I opened up my Brightline app and purchased our tickets for the trip. I planned it so I could pick Sebastian up when he got out of school, stop somewhere for lunch, and start our travel adventures through our city.
We parked at the Dadeland Metrorail station, took a Metrorail train to the Overtown/Lyric Theater station and walked around the corner to the Brightline station. It was that easy. The Brightline app has a QR code for your ticket on its app where you can scan that at the turnstile and go to your waiting area. It was really very easy. I did have to go through a metal detector, but I just put my diaper bag through and all was well. Getting through the security checkpoints at Disney takes longer. Once we got there, we noticed they had a little play area set up for the kids with some Imagination Playground blocks which was perfect because my kids are into building things right now, especially Sebastian. He has a live if Lego’s, Lincoln Logs and building whatever his imagination allows.

We were able to play for just a few minutes before they called us to start boarding the train. We boarded, I got the kids settled and off we went! We were offered snacks on board and the kids happily ate their Goldfish and juice. Sebastian was given a train pin that he absolutely adores and proudly shows off.

Before we knew it, we were at our station in Fort Lauderdale and disembarking the train. It really was a quick trip! Definitely quicker than if I had driven and absolutely less stressful.
We walked the two blocks over to the Museum of Discovery and Science and started our fun. For the summer, the Museum joins up with Lion Country Safari, Zoo Miami, and the Miami Seaquarium and they offer a summer pass for all four locations for a reduced rate. And if you’re a member of any of the 4 parks/museums, you will receive a discounted rate. Since I’m a zoo member, I figured why not! With just a bit more than I would have paid for the entrance to the museum, we get our summer passes and now I have cheap activities the kids and I can enjoy over the summer while schools out.
I decided to take a lot of video of the kids while we were there, and since I did I put it all together in a YouTube video. Check it out there and leave me a comment there as well.

As you can see, we had a lot of fun. So much so that Sebastian passed out on the short drive home and Madison napped while waiting for the Brightline train home.
