Mommy’s Day Out: When you just need to demand some “ME” time

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″][et_pb_row custom_padding=”0|0px|6px|0px|false|false” _builder_version=”3.0.48″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.21.1″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”]I had a little me time this afternoon, which was really nice.  You see, I cycle for fun and exercise.  Before having Silly Baby, my husband and I would go out 3-4 times a week.  It’s a little more difficult now because being able to go out entails either getting a babysitter so we can both go out, or one of us has to stay with the baby.  9 times out of 10, when I’ve finally settled on when I’m going to go for a ride, I either can’t wake up early enough to meet my group or I’m exhausted for the evening rides.  Today I said to hell with it!  Dad, you’re watching the kid and I’m going out!  I am so glad I did.

I love riding with my group because there is safety in numbers. And with how out of shape I am, being able to draft somebody so you don’t tire as easily is a must! But I love how meditative and freeing it can be to go on your own. There’s something very theraputic about being able to work through your own doubts.

Perfect Day

It was a gorgeous day here in South Florida today.  It was in the 70’s midday, which is perfect, the skies were a gorgeous shade of blue – the kind of blue that only happens in autumn and winter here.  I was able to go to a few of my favorite spots, since I went in the afternoon and most of the world was working, the traffic was down to a minimum.

One of the perks of riding alone is you get to say when you’re going to stop for a break and where.  I decided, since I was in the area, to stop at the best lemonade stand in the whole wide world.  AC’s Icees is a Miami landmark  and it really is the most refreshing thing to get when you’re working out. Or when it’s just hot out. And in Miami, this is about 95% of the time.

Never Time for Me

I really do not take a lot of me time, and when I do it usually involves taking a bath alone. It’s easier for Silly Baby and I to take a shower together so I’m hardly ever alone in the shower anymore.  Now that Silly Baby is older, I plan on changing this.

I do need to get on my bike more because I really don’t feel comfortable in my body. As easy as it would be for me to jog with him, I can’t because my knees are in really bad shape.  I walk with him a lot, but that doesn’t feel like exercise to me.  It just feels like something I should be doing anyway.  I haven’t even gone to get my hair cut since he was born because that requires too much planning.  Truthfully though, as much as I would love some me time, the moment I am not with him I feel empty.  It feels strange to look in my rearview and not see him in his carseat. I love having my son around because he really is the world to me.

Change of Plans

There is so much I’ve learned on this little journey of mine. In the year I’ve been a mother, I’ve had to let go of a lot of ideas I had while I was pregnant because my son has taught me that not eve
